Prague: 2026's breakout destination
If you're looking for a European destination that combines history, fairy-tale architecture, cheap beer, and prices much more accessible than Paris or Rome, Prague is the answer. The Czech capital was the destination with the biggest search growth in 2026 (up 180% year over year), and it's no coincidence: it has everything to win over a traveler.
In this guide I'll walk you through what to see, when to go, how to get around, what to eat, and how to make the most of your visit to the "city of a thousand spires."
Why Prague?
- Historic center declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site
- One of the most affordable capitals in Europe
- Compact and easy to explore on foot
- Czech beer among the best in the world (Pilsner Urquell from $2.70 a pint)
- Hearty, flavorful food
Best time to visit Prague
Spring (March to May)
A favorite for many travelers. May stands out as the ideal month: pleasant temperatures, a lively city but not yet packed with summer crowds. It overlaps with the Prague Spring International Music Festival and Easter markets.
Summer (June to August)
Long days (daylight until 10 pm) and patios in full swing. The downside: lots of people and higher prices. Expect long lines at St. Vitus Cathedral and other top attractions.
Fall (September to October)
Another ideal window, especially mid-September to mid-October. Fewer crowds, golden landscapes, and still long days. A great time for culture lovers: opera, ballet, and classical music kick into season.
Winter (November to February)
January and February are the coldest and quietest months: perfect for museums and St. Vitus Cathedral without the lines. December, on the other hand, shines with Christmas markets full of hot wine with cloves.
Tip: if you want to skip the crowds and save money, aim for May or late September.
